Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is a family of schools consisting of 30 Catholic primaries and 5 secondaries, serving the communities of Darlington, County Durham, Stockton and Hartlepool.
The aim of Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is to provide a practical and moral purpose to the furthering of education, giving strength and a collective responsibility for the educational welfare of pupils in our schools. Pupils are the centre of all decision making and Christ is at the heart of our moral purpose.
Our Trust shapes its collaboration through the fundamental principles of Catholic Social Teaching. School leaders work together for the common good, all pupils feel safe, welcomed and supported with every possible opportunity and staff benefit from a collective approach that respects and values professional agency.

Our BHCET termly newsletter showcases the incredible achievements, events, and stories from across our Trust community.

We are proud to offer a wide range of enriching opportunities that go beyond the classroom. All children have access to exciting experiences such as trips abroad through the Turing Scheme, participation in athletic events, and engaging Modern Foreign Language days. We also encourage pupil voice through involvement in our Trust-wide Pupil Parliament, ensuring every child has the chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and create lasting memories.
Three of our Trust schools - Carmel College, St. Bede’s Catholic Primary School, and St. John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College - recently travelled to Newcastle to take part in the North East Choir of the Year 2026 at the iconic Glasshouse ICM. It was a day filled with music, teamwork, and unforgettable experiences as our young singers took to a professional stage and shared their talents alongside choirs from across the region.
This week, Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust is delighted to celebrate National Storytelling Week 2026, an annual celebration led by The Society for Storytelling. The theme for this year is “Speaking Story into the Darkness” – a powerful reminder of the light, hope and connection that stories can bring to our lives and communities.
Choosing where your child begins their learning journey is a big decision. Our nurseries offer a warm, nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported and excited to explore the world around them. Set within our Trust’s primary schools, each nursery provides the very best early years experience — helping children grow in confidence and preparing them seamlessly for the move into Reception.
